Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF)
The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) is a development institution which supports businesses to innovate, create jobs, leverage investments and markets in an effort to create resilience and sustainable incomes in rural and marginalised communities in Africa. Launched in 2008, the AECF has mobilised over US $356 million to date, leveraging more than US $658 million in matching capital and improving the lives of more than 16 million people in 2017 alone through jobs and increased household incomes. AECF has so far supported 268 companies in 26 countries in sub-Saharan Africa across 40 value chains in our focal sectors of agribusiness and renewable energy.
In May 2017, Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) was formed as a a spin-off of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). This was done at an event conceptualised and executed by The Arts Group including the creative design of the strategy logo, event identity, look & feel and logistical support. During the launch, AECF’s Board Chair, Lord Paul Boateng, said, “the launch of AECF Ltd. as a separate legal entity marks the next step in the growth of the Fund. We are redoubling our efforts to highlight agriculture, agribusiness and renewable energy in Africa’s development with an exciting new emphasis on youth, women and equitable growth in Africa’s rural heart land.
